ITV Chart Show - Dance Chart (22nd June 1991)
The Chart Show normally plays 2 songs in a specialist chart, but on rare occasions, it sometimes only plays 1 song. There was one occasion, where they didn't play a single song, just only a countdown (It was from the September 1986 Indie Chart, which I've mentioned on earlier blogs).
However at least they've played the right song, the classic Cubic 22's Night in Motion. This track was probably one of the early rave tunes, which hit the Top 40 (In fact the song reached the top 20 in the UK Singles Chart), before the likes of Prodigy and others started to dominate the charts.
Cubic 22 were a Belgium act and this small tiny country has produced quite a considerable amount of dance acts such as Technotronic and Ian Van Dahl. Interestingtly alot of Belgium acts move outside their country to establish bases across into Holland or Germany. I guess its because the market is not that big in their own country.
Even so, Cubic 22 was only a cover name for Belgian producers Peter Ramson and Danny Van Wauwe, who later on used different pseudonyms to make more dance tracks, which didn't really hit the Top 40 UK Singles Chart.
After Cubic 22, it was the Prodigy's turn and then finally Bizarre Inc's moment in 1991. Since then, Prodigy is the only survivor in terms of longevity in the music business. It shows that with every music genre, there is always survivors. Although it doesn't mean they still make great music (Prodigy, I'm looking at you !!!)
