ITV Chart Show Dance Chart (18th April 1992)

The Chart Show was probably credited as the only show where they could get away with duplicate numbers on the charts, poor spellings (Praga Kahn ??? Should be Praga Khan !!!), censoring naughty acts (Digital O.... Answer: Digital Orgasm) and writing bizarre facts on their info-boxes. One of the bizarre facts was Paul McCartney liking SL2's On a Ragga Tip. I can't imagine the Ex-Beatle dancing to SL2, but then I couldn't imagine seeing on TV today of a 71 year old man ice skating in the middle of a shopping centre in Scotland !!!

SL2 sampled On a Ragga Tip from two reggae records. Record number 1 was Jah Screechie's Walk and Skank, which you can hear on YouTube and also record number 2 Slim Smith's Never Let Go, which is also on the same website. Both records vary considerably, which is no surprise, because the latter was made in the 1960's and the other was made in the 1980's. Both originals are quite good and its an achievement that SL2 used both records to make a great dance track. Never thought that reggae and rave music would mix together, but it certainly worked.

As with many rave acts in the early 90's, they slowly faded away, but they certainly influenced and created more dance genres. Praga Khan (real name Maurice Engelen) was one of them, he later on influenced the hard house scene and his song "injected with a poison" still gets played in some "trendy" clubs every year. Whether people will get bored with it, will remain to see, but personally early 90's music made some great dance tracks, which are not that common in the 21st century.
