The Chart Show Rock Chart (16th August 1997)
What a wonderful noise !!!! The number 1 song called ironically "Anthem" by the ever unpredictable The Wildhearts. The band were from Newcastle and mixed hard rock, punk and melodic pop. The group never really achieved much success in terms of having a top ten hit, but they did make some really catchy tunes such as "I Wanna Go Where The People Go" and the infamous video of "Red Light Green Light".
The video to "Red Light Green Light" was basically a light bulb flashing only red and green lights. Not exactly the most thrilling thing to see - it was basically like watching paint dry !!! Nevertheless the songs compensated the dreadful videos !!!!
The Wildhearts will probably never be the same as they were in the mid-90's, but they certainly made better music than another artist on this chart called "Fish". I really loathed his solo music and worse of all, he was still making it throughout most of the 90's. His cover version of Thunderclap Newman's "Something in the Air" mixed with electronic beats was so awful, even the Cheeky Girls could have made a better cover version !!!! Thankfully it seems now that Fish has retired from the music scene and hopefully won't make any dreadful songs !!!!
