The Chart Show Indie Chart (9th April 1994)

Four days after Kurt Cobain's death, the Chart Show played Hole's Miss World. Surprisingly or maybe not, the chart show never mentions Kurt's death on his wife's video. Courtney Love was the co-founder of Hole and was previously a member of Babes in Toyland. Both bands were part of the riot grrl movement, with almost female bands that played loud punk rock tunes. I still remember in 1991, Hole's first appearance on the Chart Show and boy were they loud and noisy, although the chart show censored their single title by calling it teenage .... (in fact, the real title was called teenage whore !!!).

I really started liking Hole's music around 1993, when they released the single "My Beautiful Son". It was basically a song about Kurt Cobain dressing up in womens clothes. I'm not too sure whether Courtney liked Kurt wearing female items, but she certainly made a great rock tune out of it. It had the punk and the melody, which sounded very Nirvana-ish.

Hole were never as big as Nirvana, but they did make some decent tunes. After Hole split up, Courtney decided to make a solo career with a disasterous album in 2004, which to be honest did not make the critics say wow. It was a very riot grrl kind of music, which by this time, was very out of date. Since then, she has made a second album, which will be released in March 2009. Whether the sound will be similar to the riot grrl or totally different, we'll have to wait and see.
