The Chart Show - Dance Chart (22nd August 1998)
Finally the last ever episode of the Chart Show. The Chart Show at this time was to be honest really at a demise state. Not only Formula 1 racing shorten the chart show by removing the specialist charts, but also The Chart Show lost its magic, when the graphics were changed in 1996. It felt like it wasn't the chart show that I was brought up with.
Sooner or late, the Chart Show was one day going to disappear. Even during 1998, satelitte and cable TV were becoming popular and made the existant of The Chart Show and Top of the Pops more vulnerable. This proved right when in August 1998, ITV decided to get rid of the show.
I personally didn't really watch many of the shows during 1996-98 period, because it just lost its magic and also the interventions of Formula 1 made such an impact, that I really didn't care about seeing the next episode. Ultimately the founders of the chart show later had success in the satelitte and cable tv world with several channels owned by them.
They did bring the repeats back on one of their channels, but due to cock-ups in transmission and low viewing ratings, they finally at the end got rid of it. Even they also tried to have a revamped version for 2008, which basically was worse than the 1996-98 version !!! Finally it seems the 2008 version has disappeared, as there hasn't been any new episodes from 2009.
All I can say about the chart show was that it was good when it started, but as with human life, it starts to blossom and then in old age, it decays and finally rots away. Even then, I still have fond memories of the show.
